How to Choose & Install Flooring Parquet

The option of flooring is among the most fundamental yet important decisions a house owner needs to make when undertaking a renovation, because it underpins anything else. While there are many different choices, from carpet to terrazzo, one materials are the acknowledged standard: hardwood.

Although not all hardwood floors is produced equal, deciding on an item isn’t simply dependent on selecting a frequent color. A variety of additional factors can have an affect on both appearance and gratifaction.

Look around the several choices available, we spoken with three experts: Scott Johnson, director of product management at Carlisle Wide Plank Floors James Caroll, principal of LV Wood and Mara Miller, partner in the AD100 firm Carrier and Company Interiors. Once you discover the right fit for the space, you will need to consider installation. While might want to employ a professional to set up their floors, some smart homeowners go the DIY route. If you are prepared to tackle the work yourself, Tony Pastrana, installation systems developer at Lance armstrong Flooring, shared his advice regarding how to install your personal flooring.

Typically, hardwood floors arrived thick planks of solid timber. Today, solid hardwood continues to be broadly available, however, many companies offer parquet flooring created using a thinner top layer of hardwood, glued with other layers made to avoid the floor from shifting during expansion and contraction cycles. “All wood moves in three directions: There’s tangential, radial, and longitudinal movement,” states Johnson. “With engineered products, you’re creating opposing forces inside the board to try and restrict natural movement from the wood.”

For basements and apartments with concrete subfloors, engineered flooring provides an installation advantage. Whereas wood is usually installed over a couple of layers of plywood, which could enhance the height of the floor and hinder existing doorways or marginally reduce ceiling height, “flooring parquet could be glued straight to concrete, or higher a soundproofing pad,” states Caroll. “It’s also appropriate for installation over radiant heat.”
